The Pagoda, guarded by eight golden lion statues, two on each side, erected on the thumbs.

The big Buddha Statues posed in Lotus Position with his hand in Dharmachakra Mudra, Bhumisparsha Mudra and Abhaya Mudra, placed inside the Dhauli were the eye catchers.

Moreover, the artistic pattern of the resting Buddha statue made us spellbound.

Additionally, the pictorial inscriptions based on the teachings of Buddha, on the walls of Dhauli will surely seek your attention.

The white shiny walls of the Dhauli gave us an astonishing view in the daytime. But with the setting sun, the white walls turned into a colorful canvas and became a Story Telling Pagoda.

You might be thinking what “Story Telling Pagoda” is…

If history were taught in the form of stories, it would never be forgotten.

–Rudyard Kipling

We are talking about the LIGHT & SOUND Show. With the starting of the show, an illusion started to prevail all over. This 35 minutes show took us to the early era where we witnessed the glory of the Kalinga Empire, the conflict within the Maurya Dynasty along with the powerful holding of King Ashoka. It gave us a vivid view of the throne of Chandragupta Maurya, his conversion to Jain Monk, followed by Bindusara and then King Ashoka.  The narration of Kalinga war and its grievous consequence gave us goosebumps. As the show continues we came to know details about King Ashoka and how the grievous consequence of war transformed him from Chandashoka, the merciless Ashoka to Dharma Ashoka, Fond of dharma.

We also got to know the sentimental attachment between the river Daya and Ashoka, as after the Kalinga war the water color changed into the red due to the blood of soldiers. It enabled Ashoka to realize the magnitude of horror associated with war.

Light & Sound Show at Dhauli

Overall the light and sound show was very interesting and knowledgeable. Here we experienced the perfect combo of art and modern technology of 3D projection. The English & Hindi narration was made by renowned Bollywood actors Kabir Bedi and Om Puri. Whereas, Odia actor Bijay Mohanty rendered his voice for the Odia version.

Not to mention, if you ever plan to visit Dhauli, never miss the show.

Furthermore, we saw the Ashoka inscription pillar placed on one side of the Dhauli.

The beautiful natural surroundings of the Dhauli made the place more attractive.

We spend sometimes there and clicked some photographs and carried on our journey.
